Controlling browser window opening

How to use our web site with comfort and convenience
  • Default web browser behavior is that clicking a link opens the new page in the same browser window. Mostly we leave that behavior intact.
  • Some visitors may find this tedious when trying to follow the links in our newsmag items and elsewhere, so we have provided the option to have OFFSITE links open in new windows. If you allow cookies this preference will be effective sitewide, and will persist for 90 days (or until you delete the cookie) when the default OFF mode will reset.
  • If your browser is unable to differentiate between a popup and a new window mandated by the user, then this option is best left deselected (or get yourself a grown up browser without nanny wheels).
  • Some links (and even the self appointed web design police agree here) are better handled in separate new windows. Do you really want to be reading this help box in a full browser window, when you could be reading it in a [purpose] built new window?
  • This latter kind of special window will be indicated by the cursor 'hand' symbol changing to an arrow. If your browser is unable to handle these links, leave them alone, or change your browser…
