Sat. 26 Jun. 2010 The weekend fund raising for the Hurricane dogpark continued with a Because Animals Matter book sale. As one might expect, there were bargains galore for the unknowledgeable, but for the knowledgeable there were treasures to be had… and that's all we are prepared to say on that subject!
Fri. 25 Jun. 2010 Because Animals Matter held a Karaoke in the Park evening on Friday. Click the thumbnail to view a gallery of pictures taken at the event. The stage crew worked the audience to get volunteers, and some of the participants would have pleased even the infamously critical Simon Cowell from the American Idol TV show. The Lions Club served burgers for the humans, but the dogs were treated to zookies — don't ask, we just report what we see. Dogs seemed to understand & appreciate. Proceeds from the event benefited the dogpark fund.
Thu. 06 May&nsp;'10: Dog park inaugural event for B.A.M. and local officials.
Mon. 12 Apr. '10: The BAM Book Appeal was launched to raise money for the dog park. Recycling unwanted books in return for a community resource… win/win!
B.A.M. is working with Hurricane City to establish a dog park located at 350 W 650 N. A first round of donations is needed for perimeter fencing, and contributions may be sent to B.A.M., PO Box 213, Hurricane, UT 84737. Please clearly indicate that your donation is specifically intended for use in the dog park project. Rita Longstreet (435) 635-3832 will try to answer any questions you may have about the project.
A plan of the proposed final layout of the dog park can be seen below.
The plan is also available as a large 108KB image. Click to [show/hide] an aerial photograph of the location, with the park in the top left corner, and State Street running along the bottom of the frame. Click below the aerial photo for the full Google navigator, with many additional features.
William Jackson of Jackson Land Design, Pocatello, Idaho donated the park masterplan to the city, and his generosity is gratefully acknowledged.
At a meeting of the City Planning Committee on Thu 11 Feb. '10 the plan was approved for development to go ahead. However, completion will certainly take several years to achieve, and progress towards the five years plus goal is entirely dependent on public donations to the project.
