Reunited for Mothers Day (see the last picture in the gallery above)

One visitor to a Because Animals Matter (B.A.M.) adoption event did a double-take when he saw his neighbor's missing dog being offered for re-homing. The event was held on Saturday 08 May 2010, the day before Mothers Day, in the parking lot of local grocery store Lin's Marketplace. The Hurricane Animal Control department, who were attending the event as a guest of B.A.M., had received the dog into their pound and after the claiming period had elapsed they made the animal available for adoption.

The B.A.M. website ran the story early Monday and received visits from around the world. The animal welfare group recently worked with the city authorities, and a dog park was inaugurated earlier in the week.

B.A.M. president J. Schilling said, "We are pleased to see that the groups' activities are paying off for animals and their owners. We partnered with our local Lin's Marketplace and with the city to bring these services to the community. Lin's has been a generous local supporter of our efforts, and through our mayor Tom Hirschi the city has have been proactive in providing facilities for animals and their owners."

A picture on the website, taken at the time of the reunion, shows an emotional and tearful owner with her pet. The owner said a contractor working on her property had accidentally released two dogs. Only one dog returned, and the owner feared the missing dog might have drowned in a local river swollen by the spring rains.

She searched for three weeks, but had still not given up hope even though she feared the worst. That was when her neighbor saw the missing dog at the adoption event. Phone calls were made, and pet and owner were successfully reunited making for a missing dog story with a happy ending. The other dog was not available for comment at the time the website ran the story.
