Read Elmer's Story — an account of the the difficult start he had in life.
UPDATE Tue. 18 May&thinsp'10 Jonathan wrote: "Elmer is doing just great! He definitely is getting bigger! He did not need to go to obedience school after all. I have trained him very, very well. You would not believe the progress he has made in the last month.
"He comes when called, he sits, and he stays. He can walk really well on the leash, as well as off the leash too. He never, ever runs off. I have gotten so many compliments on his behavior.
"Yesterday we went to Redcliffs Park with Roxy, Elmer's best friend. Elmer jumped into the pond after Bobby, who is Roxy's human, and swam for the first time! I could tell he's not a big fan of swimming, but he loves to walk in the creek. Once again that day, I had a lady tell how well behaved he is. He is so good with kids, other dogs, and people.
"Elmer and I would love to meet with Onyx at the dog park. That would be great. Just let me know when. Lately we have not been to that dog park you mention, but only because there are so manny good places right out side our house.
"We are off to go on a quick hike along the Anasazi trail head by my house, and then I'm off to work.
"Elmer sends his love!"

UPDATE Sat. 20 Mar. '10 Jonathan wrote: "It has been one week! I was thinking that when I woke up this morning with Elmer beside me. He is doing great! He has learned to use his doggie stairs to get up into my bed, as well as in and out of my car. We have gone to the dog park everyday; and I do mean every day! He loves, LOVES the frisbee! He can fetch it really fast. I am so proud of him. He seems to mind me better, knowing I am his new carer.
"When I leave for work I can tell he now knows it. Bobby gets home between 3-7pm and takes Elmer out to play with Roxy. Everynight that I've gotten off work Elmer, is out in the living room chilling with Roxy and Bobby, but excited to see me!
"My next door neighbor, Juila, comes and gets Elmer to play with her German Shepherd, Rudy, a few times as well. Then there is Muffy (Bobby's brother's dog) Shitzu, who is a 'ruff & tuff' little lady. She and Elmer are great buddies now, too.
"I will bring Elmer by next week for his shot, just let me know when and where. He is so happy here, and I am so happy with him. Here are more pics:"

"We are off to Las Vegas today till Monday. My friends can't wait to meet and spoil him!"
Fri. 12 Mar. '10: When Elmer met Jonathan, a new partnership was born. Elmer went to join Jonathan at his home, shared with Bobby and Roxy the yellow Labrador.
Andrea had fostered Elmer through his post trauma days — you may get some idea of what that might mean if you read his story — and she wrote:
"Elmer left for his new home Friday night. I thought it would be so hard and sad to let Elmer go, but Elmer was so excited to see Jonathan that there was only happiness to be felt. Elmer is in great care, and with someone whom he obviously loved very quickly."

After their first night together, Jonathan wrote:
"Elmer's first night went great. He is such a curious, smart little man. He did sleep the entire journey home. We played a little last night then went to bed. He slept almost the entire night. What a bed hog! He loves to stretch and cuddle. What a sweetie he is. He was up twice during the night, once to poo, the second time he got up without me knowing and peed in the walk in shower! How funny is that? I absolutely love him! I took pix shown above. He fits like a glove here! I am so happy."
